Really Awesome Skincare started with my family. 

My name is Julianna Rathmell. I am a homeschool mom of two, and my oldest son, Tobias, is really where our story began. 

Tobias has a genetic skin condition called Ichthyosis. It causes extremely dry skin and affects the way his skin naturally sheds, which can create a scale-like appearance. In fact, the name Ichthyosis comes from the Greek word for "fish."

As Tobias got older, his skin became increasingly difficult to manage. We tried what felt like every product under the sun. Some simply didn't work, while others would sting or burn the tiny fissures that developed in his extremely dry skin. 

As his mom, I knew I had to find something better. 

So I started learning, experimenting, and formulating. After years of trial and error, I finally created something that made a remarkable difference for Tobias. For the first time, even in the middle of  winter -when his skin was typically at its worst- his skin looked and felt dramatically better. 

That formula became our Really Intense Healing Balm.

At first, I simply started sharing the balm with other people. I wanted to know weather what I had created for Tobias could help others care for their skin, too. The feedback we received convinced me that this was something worth sharing with more than just our family and friends. 

And that is how Really Awesome Skincare was born. 

I didn't start this business because I set out to build a skincare company. I started it because my child needed something I couldn't find on a store shelf, so I made it myself.

Today, that same purpose is at the heart of everything I create. I believe everyone deserves products made with care and intention. Most importantly, everyone deserves to feel comfortable in their own skin.
